Software Engineer

Delft, Zuid-Holland, NetherlandsSoftware Engineering

Job description

Are you the all-round software engineer that helps us to unleash the potential of our unique hardware?

At VSParticle we are passionate about innovation in nanotechnology for meaningful purposes. We developed a breakthrough technology that enables the generation of nanoparticles at the push of a button. This allows university researchers and R&D teams across the world to create new materials 10 times faster as with conventional systems! These new material combinations form the basis of revolutionary solutions for highly relevant applications, such as green hydrogen production and sensors for air quality measurements.

From our office in Delft, the Netherlands, we design and develop a portfolio of Nanoparticle Generation and -Printing systems. We are looking to expand our software engineering (SE) team with a multidisciplinary Software Engineer. This team works to unleash the potential of our unique state-of-the-art hardware, collaborating closely with our engineering teams and our application specialists.

What will you be doing?

As the company and team are still small, your focus will be on creating a wide range of software products. This can include the development of a control/monitoring/lab automation application for a nanomaterial printer, customising a robust real-time Linux operating system, firmware development, data engineering and data science. We work in a Scrum team, using some of the latest and greatest open-source tools available, such as Python, asyncio, FastAPI and Grafana.

You distinguish yourself within the team through your experience and specialisation in particular software engineering areas. With your broad skillset, you also collaborate with others on any topic where software plays a role. You might also represent the SE team in one or more projects where close collaboration with our hardware teams takes place, discussing and implementing solutions to problems and providing insights into these projects for the SE Scrum team meetings.

Job requirements

Job requirements
You are organised and responsible enough to help grow a young software engineering team in a well-structured way, but when needed flexible enough to jump in and help your colleagues in the lab. A broad background and interest in software is a must-have and affinity with natural sciences is a big plus, as you will be collaborating closely with people working on various engineering topics. You have 3 to 5 years of experience working on software development in industry or otherwise (for example, open source projects). Besides having all-round skills in software engineering (programming, software architecture, testing) you can teach the rest of the SE team a thing or two in one or more of the following topics:

  • Linux operating systems (real-time capable kernels, custom Linux distributions via e.g. Yocto).
  • Hardware interfacing (communication protocols, bus systems).
  • Software architecture, preferably in Python (object-oriented programming, software design patterns).
  • Data engineering and data science (SQL, time-series databases).
  • DevOps (CI/CD, configuration management tools, containerisation).

Why should you join VSParticle?
We are a fast-growing startup where you can contribute to revolutionize material development, enabling researchers to find solutions for some of the largest planetary challenges (e.g., green hydrogen production, fuel cell development). We are based in a modern office with state of the art lab facilities in the centre of Delft, but also offer possibilities for hybrid work.

We have a non-hierarchical organisational structure with a diverse and international group of colleagues. You can join the daily free lunch and participate to the regular social events we organize.

Next to a good salary, we offer participation in our pension scheme, 30 holidays, travel allowance, a personal development budget and the possibility to lease a bicycle (yes, we are a Dutch company 😊).
