Who are you?
You’re a hands-on, eager-to-learn junior systems administrator with a solid foundation in IT. You may have 1-2 years of experience or have recently completed your degree in Information Technology or a related field. You’re comfortable working in both Windows and Linux environments and eager to expand your knowledge across systems administration, network engineering, and cloud infrastructure. You enjoy working with modern technologies like Microsoft 365, Linux servers, and cloud-based systems, but you're also not afraid to dig into networking and security to get things done. You want to help build, maintain, and scale critical IT infrastructure while learning from a senior and growing into a versatile IT professional.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Windows Administration: Familiarity with Windows Server environments (2008, 2012, 2016, 2019) including Active Directory, DNS, DFS, Group Policy, and basic PowerShell scripting.
- Linux Administration: Hands-on knowledge of Linux-based systems (Debian, Ubuntu, or RHEL), with experience in configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Networking Fundamentals: Basic understanding of networking concepts (IP addressing, VLANs, routing), with exposure to firewall management and VPN technologies.
- Cloud Technologies: Some exposure to cloud platforms like AWS (EC2, RDS) or Microsoft Azure and cloud services such as Office 365, Teams, SharePoint.
- Security Awareness: Basic knowledge of IT security best practices for servers, networks, and applications. You understand the importance of securing systems and data and are keen to apply these practices.
- Collaboration Tools: Familiarity with collaborative technologies like Microsoft 365, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Problem-Solving: A proactive, solutions-driven mindset that enjoys troubleshooting and learning new skills.
Responsibilities:
- Systems Administration:
- Assist in the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of Windows Server and Linux-based application servers.
- Help monitor, patch, and upgrade the Windows Server and Linux infrastructure to ensure system reliability.
- Collaborate in the configuration and management of hybrid environments, including cloud-based services (Microsoft 365, AWS, etc.) and on-premise systems.
Network Support:
- Assist in the configuration and management of network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs).
General IT Support:
- Assist in the deployment and management of IT assets, such as desktop systems, laptops, and peripheral devices for employees and lab scientists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help manage and scale both Windows Server and Linux-based environments.
- Support networking and security infrastructure, assisting in the implementation of firewalls, VPNs, and secure network setups.
- Collaborate with senior engineers in troubleshooting, patching, and upgrading systems and applications.
- Assist with monitoring and improving cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Office 365).
- Participate in security audits, ensuring proper policies are followed and data protection best practices are in place.
